Reminder: Transit Oriented Development Meeting: January 17 BCL Hall

You are invited to come and talk about the City’s Transit Oriented Development (TOD) Plans for Belgravia this coming Thursday, January 17 (7 – 8:30 pm) at the Belgravia Community League (BCL) Hall. If you have neighbours who do not belong to the BCL, please let them know as well. All are welcome.

Coffee, tea and dessert will be served. Michael Strong, principal planner with the City of Edmonton will be present to discuss the proposed plan and answer questions.

Background:
In 2011 the City of Edmonton’s Sustainable Development Department initiated preparation of a Station Area Plan for the neighbourhoods of Belgravia and McKernan.

The stated intent of the station area plan is to preserve the local character of these two neighbourhoods while at the same time capitalizing on the existence of the LRT station. The plan will determine the location and design of new transit-oriented land uses such as housing, employment and retail as well as as supportive infrastructure such as streets and parks.

To date, three open houses have been held on this plan and the project is entering its final phase towards adoption. This final phase includes removing Belgravia and McKernan from the existing 1994 Belgravia-McKernan-Parkallen Community Development Plann, which has been a significant and formative document not only for Belgravia, McKernan and Parkallen, but also for influencing mature neighbourhood development the city of Edmonton.
