Reminder: (DFAC) Declutter for a Cause/Rummage Swap and Donate to Charities: June 29, 10am-1pm @ BCL Hall

Belgravia Community League Launches “Declutter for a Cause” Rummage Swap

Belgravia families are emptying their collective closets for a first-of-its-kind event that combines giant rummage sale, charitable food drive and sustainable living.

At Belgravia Community League’s Declutter for a Cause Rummage Swap, we don’t want your money. Instead, Belgravia residents will swap their stuff for donations of food and other items to the Campus Food Bank and HART dog rescue society. For every one item or $1 you donate, you can claim one item from the Swap. All unswapped items will be donated to the Canadian Diabetes Association at the end of the Swap.

**UPDATE: June 18, 2014:

Unfortunately, Campus Food Bank is unable to participate in this event as they were unable to obtain access to transportation and storage as expected. Declutter for a Cause will now be partnering with the EDMONTON FOOD BANK as their food bank partner. We look forward to opportunities to help Campus Food Bank in the future and look forward to partnering with the Edmonton Food Bank.

The idea is a win-win-win. The fun family event run by both adult and kid volunteers gives residents a chance to reclaim home and play space, put useful items back in circulation and keep them out of landfill, and support the important work of our charitable partners. It’s also a great opportunity for neighbours to meet and mingle, check out each other’s outgrown stuff and learn about our charitable partners.

Clutter collection takes place at Belgravia Community Hall, Saturday, June 28, 4-8 pm and Sunday, June 29, 8-10 am. The Rummage Swap takes place at the Hall on Sunday, June 29, 10 am-1 pm with earlybird access for BCL members from 9-10 am. New items will be put out throughout the day.

Campus Food Bank will accept donations of non-perishable food, reusable bags and used cellphones. Volunteers will also be on hand to accept cash donations. For more information about donation guidelines, see www.campusfoodbank.com/donations.

HART dog rescue society will accept donations of dog and puppy food, treats, non-rawhide chew bones and Kong chew toys. Volunteers will also accept cash or credit donations through their website. For more information, see www.humaneanimalrescueteam.ca under “Donate” and “Wish List.”
