Join us May 3 for the Belgravia Walk-ie Talk-ie (Jane’s Walk). Jane’s Walk is an event that takes place annually on the first weekend of May to coincide with Jane Jacobs’ birthday (1916-2006).
Our 3rd annual Jane’s Walk will showcase “Belgravia’s Inventory of Sculptures.” We have some very unique front yards in Belgravia featuring clay, metal and cement sculptures. There are two very different archways that we will observe as well. Our walk will begin in our very own Arts Park. Along our walk, some of the homeowners and artists will share the art piece’s story and perhaps the method with which it was made. Upon our return to our community hall, participants will receive a sample of the ‘drilled core sample’ taken from the ground where our hall renovations will take place. The core sample can be dated back to… come to our walk to find out! Bring some water and wear weather-appropriate clothing and be ready to explore!
Since 2007, these walks have gained popularity and have taken place worldwide! Jane Jacobs was known for her focus as an urban activist, encouraging people to get out to explore their neighbourhoods and to meet their neighbours. Please visit www.janeswalk.org to learn more.
Belgravia had its first Jane’s Walk in 2013 with a wonderful group of about 35 people, aged 3 to 73! Then last year, we had about 20 very hardy folks come out despite the chilly weather. Let’s keep the momentum going!
